क्रियामन्त्रैश्व संयुक्तो ब्राह्मण: स्यान्न संशय: । क्रियामन्त्रविहीनो5पि तत्र स्नात्वा नरर्षभ | चीर्णव्रतो भवेद्‌ विद्वान्‌ दृष्टमेतत्‌ पुरातनै:,कुरुकुलशिरोमणे! वहीं अर्धकील नामक तीर्थ है, जिसे पूर्वकालमें दर्भी मुनिने ब्राह्मणोंपर कृपा करनेके लिये प्रकट किया था। वहाँ व्रत, उपनयन और उपवास करनेसे मनुष्य कर्मकाण्ड और मन्त्रोंका ज्ञाता ब्राह्मण होता है, इसमें संशय नहीं है। नरश्रेष्ठ! क्रियाविहीन और मन्त्रहीन पुरुष भी उसमें स्नान करके व्रतका पालन करनेसे विद्वान्‌ होता है, यह बात प्राचीन महर्षियोंने प्रत्यक्ष देखी है

kriyāmantraiś ca saṃyukto brāhmaṇaḥ syān na saṃśayaḥ | kriyāmantravihīno ’pi tatra snātvā nararṣabha | cīrṇavrato bhaved vidvān dṛṣṭam etat purātanaiḥ | kurukulaśiromaṇe! tatraivārdhakīla-nāmakaṃ tīrthaṃ yat pūrvakāle darbhi-muninā brāhmaṇān prati kṛpārthaṃ prakaṭīkṛtam | tatra vrata-upanayana-upavāsaiḥ manuṣyaḥ karmakāṇḍa-mantrajño brāhmaṇo bhavati, nātra saṃśayaḥ | narottama! kriyāhīno mantrahīno ’pi tatra snātvā vrataṃ caritvā vidvān bhavati—iti prācīnaiḥ maharṣibhiḥ pratyakṣaṃ dṛṣṭam |

Ghūlastya dijo: «Quien está provisto de los ritos y de los mantras védicos llega a ser un brāhmaṇa; de ello no hay duda. Y, sin embargo, aun el hombre falto de competencia ritual y de mantras, ¡oh el mejor de los hombres!, si se baña allí y observa debidamente el voto, se vuelve sabio; los antiguos videntes lo han contemplado con sus propios ojos, ¡oh joya cimera de los Kuru! Allí, en verdad, se halla el vado sagrado llamado Ardhakīla, revelado en tiempos remotos por el sabio Darbhī por compasión hacia los brāhmaṇas. Al asumir votos, la disciplina del upanayana y el ayuno en ese lugar, una persona se convierte en un brāhmaṇa diestro en rito y mantra, sin duda. Incluso quien es deficiente en ritos y mantras, al bañarse allí y guardar el voto, alcanza el saber: tal es el testimonio visto por los mayores.»
