Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that proximity to sanctified spaces and great sages is a potent aid to dharma: even a brief, disciplined stay in a revered hermitage is portrayed as yielding immense spiritual merit, comparable to major acts of charity like go-dāna.

The speaker points out Vasiṣṭha’s famed hermitage and describes its extraordinary merit: spending a single night there grants the fruit of donating a thousand cows, encouraging the listener toward pilgrimage and reverent conduct.
