Adhyāya 76: Kuṇḍina-praveśaḥ, Bhīmena satkāraḥ, Ṛtuparṇa-kṣamā, Aśvahṛdaya-pratyarpanam
Nala’s Reception and Reconciliation
sa vā praveśyatāṃ mātarmā vānujñātum arhasi | viditaṃ vāthavā jñātaṃ pitur me saṃvidhīyatām ||
The verse highlights practical ethics in a royal household: decisive action and discretion may be necessary, yet it is framed as the mother’s responsibility to manage matters appropriately—either transparently by informing the father or, if circumstances demand, by acting without disclosure.
Bṛhadaśva addresses the mother, urging her to facilitate a meeting with Bāhuka—either by summoning Bāhuka into the palace or by allowing him to go to Bāhuka—leaving the method to her judgment, with or without notifying his father.
