Nala as Bāhuka enters Ṛtuparṇa’s city
ब्रह्मण्य: साधुवृत्तश्न सत्यवागनसूयक: । शीलवान् वीर्यसम्पन्न: पृथुश्रीर्धर्मविच्छुचि:,'वे ब्राह्मणभक्त, सदाचारी, सत्यवादी, किसीके दोषको न देखनेवाले, शीलवान्, पराक्रमी, प्रचुर सम्पत्तिके स्वामी, धर्मज्ञ तथा पवित्र हैं
brahmaṇyaḥ sādhuvṛttaś ca satyavāg anasūyakaḥ | śīlavān vīryasampannaḥ pṛthuśrīr dharmavic chuciḥ ||
Es devoto de los brahmanes y del dharma, de conducta recta, veraz en el hablar y libre de buscar faltas ajenas. Es bien criado y dueño de sí, valiente, de amplia prosperidad, discernidor del dharma y puro en su interior.
बृहृदश्च उवाच
The verse defines an ethical ideal: reverence for sacred learning and Brahmins, truthful speech, freedom from envy and fault-finding, disciplined character, courage, prosperity used within dharma, and inner purity—virtues that together mark a truly righteous person.
Bṛhadaśva is describing (in praise) the character of a person by listing exemplary virtues, presenting a moral portrait that frames the narrative’s evaluation of worthiness and dharmic conduct.
