वैशम्पायन उवाच वानेयांश्व म्गांश्चैव शुद्धैर्बाणैर्निपातितान् | ब्राह्मणानां निवेद्याग्रमभुञ्जन् पुरुषर्षभा:,वैशम्पायनजीने कहा--राजन्! पुरुषश्रेष्ठ पाण्डव जंगली फल-मूल और खेतीसे पैदा हुए अन्नादि भी पहले ब्राह्मणोंको निवेदन करके फिर स्वयं खाते थे एवं सब लोगोंकी रक्षाके लिये केवल बाणोंके द्वारा ही हिंसक पशुओंको मारा करते थे
vaiśampāyana uvāca | vāneyāṁś ca mṛgāṁś caiva śuddhair bāṇair nipātitān | brāhmaṇānāṁ nivedyāgram abhuñjan puruṣarṣabhāḥ |
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: «Oh rey, aquellos hombres, semejantes a toros (los Pāṇḍavas), comían sólo después de ofrecer primero la mejor porción a los brāhmaṇas, ya fuese producto del bosque o grano obtenido por cultivo. Y para la protección de todos, abatían a las bestias peligrosas únicamente con flechas limpias y certeras, obrando con contención y sentido del deber, no con crueldad.»
