Sūrya-stava: Dhaumya’s Counsel and the Aṣṭaśata-nāma of Sūrya
सन्ति चान्यानि सत्त्वानि वीर्यवन्ति महान्ति च । न तु तेषां तथा दीप्ति: प्रभावो वा यथा तव,ब्रद्मतोकसहित ऊपरके सातों लोकोंमें तथा अन्य सब लोकोंमें भी ऐसा कोई प्राणी नहीं दीखता जो आप भगवान् सूर्यसे बढ़कर हो। भगवन्! जगतमें और भी बहुत-से महान् शक्तिशाली प्राणी हैं; परंतु उनकी कान्ति और प्रभाव आपके समान नहीं हैं। सम्पूर्ण ज्योतिर्मय पदार्थ आपके ही अन्तर्गत हैं। आप ही समस्त ज्योतियोंके स्वामी हैं। सत्य, सत्त्व तथा समस्त सात्त्विक भाव आपमें ही प्रतिष्ठित हैं। 'शार्इ” नामक धनुष धारण करनेवाले भगवान् विष्णुने जिसके द्वारा दैत्योंका घमंड चूर्ण किया है उस सुदर्शन चक्रको विश्वकर्माने आपके ही तेजसे बनाया है
santi cānyāni sattvāni vīryavanti mahānti ca | na tu teṣāṃ tathā dīptiḥ prabhāvo vā yathā tava ||
Dijo Yudhiṣṭhira: «Ciertamente existen otros seres grandes y poderosos en el mundo; pero su resplandor o su fuerza no son como los tuyos. Tu esplendor supera a todos, y por ti se conoce la medida del brillo en el cosmos.»
