Kuntī–Sūrya-saṃvāda: Autonomy, Reputation, and the Promise of Karṇa

त॑ं दृष्टवा तस्य दुर्बुद्धेरविन्ध्य: पापनिश्चयम्‌ । शमयामास संक्रुद्धं श्रूयतां येन हेतुना,दूषित बुद्धिवाले उस निशाचरके इस पापपूर्ण निश्चयकों जानकर मन्त्री अविन्ध्यने समझा-बुझाकर उसका क्रोध शान्त किया। किस मुक्तिसे उसने रावणको शान्त किया, यह बताता हूँ, सुनो--

taṁ dṛṣṭvā tasya durbuddher avindhyaḥ pāpaniścayam | śamayāmāsa saṅkruddhaṁ śrūyatāṁ yena hetunā ||

Dijo Mārkaṇḍeya: Al ver la inicua determinación de aquel de mente pervertida, el ministro Avindhya lo apaciguó cuando ardía de ira. Escuchad la causa por la cual fue calmado—cómo el consejo contuvo una intención pecaminosa y apartó la cólera de su curso destructor.
