Educational Q&A

The verse frames cruelty toward the vulnerable—especially the humiliation of a woman of royal stature—as a grave ethical violation, implicitly contrasting ruthless conduct (sunṛśaṁsa-karman) with dharma and human dignity.

The speaker, Vaiśampāyana, observes a woman (identified as Draupadī) collapsed on the ground and crying, and anxiously asks whether the Kauravas have come and subjected her to harsh mistreatment and insult.
