Educational Q&A

The verse teaches a devotional vision of the Supreme as the cosmic body: all elements and beings are limbs of the Lord. Ethically, it grounds humility and reverence—seeing the world as sacred and sustained by a higher order, encouraging dharmic conduct aligned with that order.

Uttanka addresses the Lord (identified through epithets like Madhusūdana and Acyuta) with a hymn that maps the cosmos onto the deity’s body—sky as head, sun and moon as eyes, directions as arms, ocean as belly, mountains as thighs, earth as feet—praising him as the source of Brahmā, the Vedas, and all knowable things.
