Indradyumna Upākhyāna: On Kīrti, Smṛti, and Restoration
The verse frames yuga-ending dissolution as a collapse of established social distinctions (varṇas), implying that when dharma wanes, the structures that sustain learning, protection, and livelihood lose their defining roles and the world becomes socially undifferentiated.
Mārkaṇḍeya addresses a king and describes a future condition at the end of the age: the named varṇas—Brāhmaṇa, Kṣatriya, and Vaiśya—will no longer persist as distinct groups, and society will appear as a single varṇa.
