The verse underscores a recurring Mahābhārata ethic: anger (krodha) clouds judgment and turns even disciplined warriors toward impulsive, retaliatory violence. Strength without self-mastery becomes destructive, especially when amplified by group solidarity in rage.
Arjuna reports that after being hurt by his arrows, the opposing great warriors, inflamed with anger, unite and attack him simultaneously, pelting him with a concentrated barrage of arrows and close-combat weapons (spears and swords).
