The verse emphasizes recognition of the divine identity behind Kṛṣṇa: he is not merely a human ally but the all-pervading Viṣṇu, who can assume forms and births for cosmic purposes. It frames devotion as grounded in understanding the Lord’s transcendent nature and his voluntary incarnation.
Arjuna addresses Kṛṣṇa with reverence, recalling well-known divine genealogies: Viṣṇu’s birth as Aditi’s son and his status as Indra’s younger brother (Upendra). This functions as a laudatory identification of Kṛṣṇa with Viṣṇu within the ongoing dialogue.
