Kāleya-Āśrama-Vināśaḥ — The Kāleyas’ nocturnal raids and the devas’ supplication to Nārāyaṇa
महच्छत्रुहणं घोरं षडश्र॑ भीमनि:स्वनम् । तेन वज्नेण वै वृत्रं वधिष्यति शतक्रतु:,देवराज इन्द्रका वजके प्रहारसे वृत्रासुरका वध करना “उसकी आकृति षट्कोणके समान होगी। वह महान् एवं घोर शत्रुनाशक अस्त्र भयंकर गड़गड़ाहट पैदा करनेवाला होगा। उस वचज्के द्वारा इन्द्र निश्चय ही वृत्रासुरका वध कर डालेंगे
mahācchatrūhaṇaṃ ghoraṃ ṣaḍaśraṃ bhīmanisvanam | tena vajreṇa vai vṛtraṃ vadhiṣyati śatakratuḥ ||
Lomaśa dijo: «Ese rayo será inmenso y terrible, destructor de poderosos enemigos; de forma hexagonal y rugiente con un sonido espantoso. Con ese vajra, Śatakratu—Indra, rey de los dioses—dará muerte sin duda a Vṛtra».
लोगमश उवाच
The verse frames the defeat of a destructive force (Vṛtra) as necessary for restoring order, and it highlights that power must be directed through a rightful means (the vajra) and firm resolve—suggesting that even legitimate authority acts within constraints of purpose, instrument, and duty.
Lomasha describes the formidable thunderbolt—its shape and terrifying sound—and declares that Indra (Śatakratu), using this vajra, will certainly kill Vṛtra, the great adversary threatening the gods’ order.
