कण्वोपदेशः—नश्वरबलविवेकः तथा मातलिगुणकेश्याः आख्यानारम्भः
Kaṇva’s Counsel on Impermanent Power; Opening of the Mātali–Guṇakeśī Narrative
न्यमन्त्रयेतां राजानं कि कार्य क्रियतामिति । ततस्तामानुपूर्वी स पुनरेवान्वकीर्तयत्,निकट जाकर उनके चरणोंमें नमस्कार करके दम्भोद्धवने उन दोनोंका कुशल-समाचार पूछा। तब नर और नारायणने राजाका स्वागत-सत्कार करके आसन, जल और फल-मूल देकर उन्हें भोजनके लिये निमन्त्रित किया। तदनन्तर पूछा कि हम आपकी कया सेवा करें? यह सुनकर उन्होंने अपना सारा वृत्तान्त पुनः अक्षरश: सुना दिया
nyamantrayētāṃ rājānaṃ kiṃ kāryaṃ kriyatām iti | tataḥ tām ānupūrvīṃ sa punar evānvakīrtayat ||
Dijo Vaiśaṃpāyana: Nara y Nārāyaṇa invitaron al rey, diciendo: «¿Qué servicio debemos hacer por ti?» Entonces él volvió a relatar, en el orden debido y exactamente como había sucedido, el relato entero de su misión: cómo se acercó con respeto, rindió homenaje a sus pies y fue recibido con la hospitalidad que corresponde, ofreciéndole asiento, agua y frutos y raíces, e invitándolo a tomar alimento. La escena subraya la ética de honrar con reverencia a huéspedes y soberanos, y de narrar con verdad y orden cuando se busca consejo en asuntos de dharma.
