Reconciling Contingency and Human Effort
अथ चेन्मां न जानासि सूर्यस्येवोद्यत: प्रभाम्
atha cen māṃ na jānāsi sūryasyevodyataḥ prabhām
Si aún no me reconoces, contempla mi resplandor—alzándose, inconfundible—como el mismo sol. Esta línea afirma una identidad legítima y una resolución conforme al dharma: mi presencia no debe ser ignorada ni menospreciada, y mi poder se alza como advertencia contra la soberbia y la injusticia en el conflicto que se despliega.
भीमसेन उवाच
The verse emphasizes unmistakable moral and personal presence: true strength and rightful resolve cannot be concealed or dismissed; it stands forth openly like the rising sun, warning against misrecognition born of pride or hostility.
Bhīma is speaking in a tense pre-war context, asserting his identity and power. He challenges the other party’s failure (real or feigned) to recognize him, using the sun’s rising brilliance as a forceful comparison.
