Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Appraisal of Strength and Preference for Śama
जातिगृद्धयाभिपन्नाश्न पाण्डवानामनेकश: । धर्मादय: समेष्यन्ति समाहूता दिवौकस:
jātigṛddhyābhipannāś ca pāṇḍavānām anekaśaḥ | dharmādayaḥ sameṣyanti samāhūtā divaukasaḥ ||
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: Movidos por el apego a su propio linaje y a los lazos de sangre, los dioses vinculados de muchas maneras con los Pāṇḍava—Dharma y los demás, los moradores del cielo—se reunirán sin falta cuando sean convocados, y acudirán en auxilio de Yudhiṣṭhira y de sus hermanos.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse links rightful cause and dharmic leadership with the expectation of support from higher powers: when those bound by duty, origin, and moral order are invoked, they are inclined to rally to protect and uphold dharma.
In the Udyoga Parva’s lead-up to war, Vaiśampāyana explains that because the Pāṇḍavas are born through various deities, those very gods—beginning with Dharma—will gather and come when called, to assist Yudhiṣṭhira and his brothers.
