धृतराष्ट्रस्य बलाबलचिन्ता

Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Appraisal of Strength and Preference for Śama

क्षयोदयो<यं सुमहान्‌ कुरूणां प्रत्युपस्थित: । अस्य चेत्‌ कलहस्यान्त: शमादन्यो न विद्यते

kṣayodayo ’yaṃ sumahān kurūṇāṃ pratyupasthitaḥ | asya cet kalahasyāntaḥ śamād anyo na vidyate ||

Vaiśaṃpāyana dijo: «Un inmenso punto de inflexión de ruina y conmoción ha caído sobre los Kurus. Si el fin de esta querella no puede lograrse por otro medio que no sea la pacificación y el acuerdo, entonces solo el acuerdo me parece justo. Provocar la guerra contra los hijos de Kuntī no es apropiado; siempre he tenido por más fuertes a los Pāṇḍavas que a los Kauravas».
