War-aversion, Desire as a Policy Fault, and Analysis of Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Governance

निबन्धनी हार्थतृष्णेह पार्थ तामिच्छतां बाध्यते धर्म एव । धर्म तु यः प्रवृणीते स बुद्ध: कामे गृध्नो हीयते<र्थानुरोधात्‌,कुन्तीनन्दन! इस संसारमें धनकी तृष्णा ही बन्धनमें डालनेवाली है। जो धनकी तृष्णामें फँसता है, उसका धर्म भी नष्ट हो जाता है। जो धर्मका वरण करता है, वही ज्ञानी है। भोगोंकी इच्छा करनेवाला मनुष्य तो धनमें आसक्त होनेके कारण धर्मसे भ्रष्ट हो जाता है

sañjaya uvāca | nibandhanī hārthatṛṣṇeha pārtha tām icchatāṃ bādhyate dharma eva | dharmaṃ tu yaḥ pravṛṇīte sa buddhaḥ kāme gṛdhno hīyate 'rthānurodhāt |

Dijo Sañjaya: «¡Oh Pārtha! En este mundo, el ansia de riqueza es el lazo que encadena. A quienes la persiguen, el dharma mismo los domina y se mengua. Pero quien elige el dharma es verdaderamente sabio; el hombre codicioso de placeres decae, pues el apego a la ganancia lo aparta de la rectitud».
