Sañjaya’s Envoy-Speech on Peace
आशंसते वै धृतराष्ट्र: सपुत्रो महाराज्यमसपत्नं॑ पृथिव्याम् | तस्मिज्छम: केवल नोपलभ्य: सर्व स्वकं मद्गते मन्यते<र्थम्
āśaṃsate vai dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ saputro mahārājyam asapatnaṃ pṛthivyām | tasmiñ chamaḥ kevala nopalabhyaḥ sarvaṃ svakaṃ madgate manyate 'rtham ||
Dijo Sañjaya: Dhritarashtra, junto con sus hijos, abriga la esperanza de una soberanía imperial sin rival sobre la tierra. Con un hombre así, la paz por sí sola no puede asegurarse de verdad; pues ahora considera como suyos todos los bienes y ventajas que cayeron en sus manos cuando fuimos expulsados. Por ello, pese a mucha reflexión, no veo medio alguno de preservar el bienestar tanto de la estirpe Kuru como de la estirpe Pāṇḍava sin el peligro del conflicto.
