एष मे निश्चय: साधो कृतं कारणमुनत्तमम् । आमन्त्रयामि भद्र ते कृतार्थोडस्मि भुजजड्रम
eṣa me niścayaḥ sādho kṛtaṃ kāraṇam uttamam | āmantrayāmi bhadra te kṛtārtho ’smi bhujaṅgama mahātman ||
Dijo el brāhmaṇa: «Ésta es mi resolución firme, oh hombre de bien. El propósito ha sido cumplido—y de la mejor manera. Ahora me despido de ti; que el bien sea tuyo. Oh serpiente, gran alma, he alcanzado mi fin; te pido permiso para partir».
ब्राह्मण उवाच
The verse highlights ethical speech and conduct: once one’s purpose is fulfilled, one should express gratitude, offer auspicious wishes, and seek leave respectfully—showing humility and propriety even toward a non-human being.
A brāhmaṇa addresses a serpent who has helped accomplish his objective. Declaring his resolve satisfied and his task completed, he blesses the serpent and formally asks permission to depart.
