महाभूत–इन्द्रिय–मनस्–बुद्धि–अन्तरात्मा विवेकः | Discrimination of Elements, Senses, Mind, Intellect, and Inner Self

अफालकुष् व्रीहियवं नीवारं विघसानि च । हवींषि सम्प्रयच्छेत मखेष्वत्रापि पजचसु

Vyāsa uvāca — aphāla-kṛṣṭaṁ vrīhi-yavaṁ nīvāraṁ vighasāni ca | havīṁṣi samprayaccheta makheṣv atrāpi pañcasu ||

Vyāsa dijo: «Que el sabio que mora en el bosque se sostenga con arroz y cebada nacidos de tierra no arada, con granos silvestres (nīvāra) y con los restos que quedan tras alimentar a los huéspedes. Aun viviendo en la etapa del bosque, debe ofrecer y distribuir debidamente las oblaciones prescritas (havis) en los cinco sacrificios diarios. Así, la renuncia no es descuido: la sencillez del sustento se une al deber constante hacia los dioses, los antepasados, los seres y los huéspedes.»
