Dhṛtarāṣṭra–Saṃjaya Dialogue: Duryodhana’s Entry into the Lake
उलूको5पि महाराज भीम॑ विव्याध सप्तभि: । सहदेवं च सप्तत्या परीप्सन् पितरं रणे,महाराज! रणभूमिमें पिताकी रक्षा करते हुए उलूकने भीमसेनको सात और सहदेवको सत्तर बाणोंसे क्षत-विक्षत कर दिया
sañjaya uvāca | ulūko 'pi mahārāja bhīmaṃ vivyādha saptabhiḥ | sahadevaṃ ca saptatyā parīpsan pitaraṃ raṇe ||
Sañjaya dijo: Oh rey, Ulūka también, empeñado en proteger a su padre en la batalla, hirió a Bhīma con siete flechas y lastimó a Sahadeva con setenta, luchando por resguardar a su progenitor en el campo de guerra.
संजय उवाच
Even amid violent conflict, the verse highlights a recognizable dharmic impulse: filial responsibility. Ulūka’s action is framed not merely as aggression but as an attempt to protect his father, showing how personal duties and loyalties operate within the larger ethics of war.
Sanjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Ulūka, fighting on the battlefield, shoots Bhīma with seven arrows and Sahadeva with seventy, doing so with the intention of safeguarding his father during the combat.
