Maya’s Offer and the Commissioning of the Sabhā

Educational Q&A

Major undertakings should begin in harmony with right intention and proper order: aligning with wise counsel, choosing auspicious timing, and honoring dharma through hospitality and generosity. The verse highlights that power and achievement are to be grounded in ritual propriety and respect for the learned.

Maya, acting according to the wishes of the Pāṇḍavas and Kṛṣṇa, initiates the building of the grand assembly hall. He begins on an auspicious day with ceremonial rites and by honoring brāhmaṇas, then proceeds to prepare and measure the site for construction.
