Shloka 57

तथैवोत्थापयामासुर्गान्धारी कुरुयोषित: । स दैवं परमं॑ मत्वा भवितव्यं च पार्थिव:,इसी प्रकार कुरुकुलकी स्त्रियोंने आकर गान्धारी देवीको उठाया। भाग्य और भवितव्यताको ही प्रबल मानकर राजा धुृतराष्ट्र भारी व्यथधाका अनुभव करने लगे। उनकी विवेकशक्ति नष्ट हो गयी। वे महातपस्वी नरेश चिन्ता और शोकमें डूब गये और मोहसे पीड़ित होनेके कारण उन्हें किसी भी बातकी सुध न रही। विदुर और संजयके समझानेपर राजा धृतराष्ट्र अचेत-से होकर चुपचाप बैठे रह गये

tathaivotthāpayāmāsur gāndhārīṁ kuru-yoṣitaḥ | sa daivaṁ paramaṁ matvā bhavitavyaṁ ca pārthivaḥ |

Vaiśampāyana dijo: Del mismo modo, las mujeres de la casa de los Kuru acudieron y levantaron a la reina Gāndhārī. Pero el rey Dhṛtarāṣṭra, tomando por supremos al destino (daiva) y a lo inevitable (bhavitavya), quedó anegado por la angustia; su discernimiento se quebró, y el gran rey asceta se hundió en la ansiedad y el duelo, ofuscado y sin saber qué debía hacerse. Aunque Vidura y Sañjaya lo aconsejaban, permaneció sentado en silencio, casi sin sentido.
