The verse highlights yathāvṛtta-vākya—speaking and reporting events exactly as they occurred. In the Mahābhārata’s ethical world, truthful narration is itself a form of dharma, especially in war where grief, victory, and blame can distort memory and judgment.
After Karṇa’s fall, Krishna (Vāsudeva), accompanied by Arjuna, conveys to the concerned listener the complete and accurate account of how Karṇa was slain. Sañjaya reports this act of communication, emphasizing its fidelity to the actual sequence of events.
