य एक: पाण्डवीं सेनां शरौचै: समवेष्टयत् । त॑ं समासाद्य पञ्चाला भीष्म नासन् पराड्मुखा:
ya ekaḥ pāṇḍavīṁ senāṁ śarauśaiḥ samaveṣṭayat | taṁ samāsādya pañcālā bhīṣma nāsan parāṅmukhāḥ ||
Dijo Sañjaya: Aquel que, él solo, cercó al ejército de los Pāṇḍava con una densa lluvia de flechas—cuando los Pāñcālas se le echaron encima, oh Bhīṣma, no dieron la espalda. Ante un único guerrero formidable, se mantuvieron firmes, mostrando valor constante en medio de la carga moral de la guerra.
संजय उवाच

A single warrior is described as hemming in the Pāṇḍava forces with a heavy barrage of arrows. The Pāñcāla fighters then advance to engage him, and Sañjaya emphasizes to Bhīṣma that they did not flee or turn their backs.
