Karṇa’s Breach of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Battle-Line

Educational Q&A

The passage highlights dharmic hierarchy and reverence: even powerful beings (wind-swift horses) symbolically submit to sacred authority and auspicious moments. It underscores that rightful station (pada) is established by divine ordinance, and that humility before the sacred order is a mark of propriety.

Bhīṣma describes a divine scene: the gods install Śaṅkara’s charioteer in his proper role, and as Brahmā prepares to mount a revered chariot, the horses bow their heads to the ground and sit, signaling respect and the solemnity of the event.
