The episode frames divine force as a corrective power that restores cosmic order: when destructive beings (asuras) threaten the world, the Lord’s action—though violent—functions as the re-establishment of dharma rather than personal vengeance.
Bhishma recounts the moment Śiva releases a supreme arrow against the three demon cities (Tripura). As the cities collapse toward the earth, a great wail arises; the demons are incinerated and their remains are cast into the western ocean.
