Chapter 99: Sātyaki and Duḥśāsana’s engagement
उत्थितान्यगणेयानि कबन्धानि समन्ततः । अदृश्यन्त महाराज तस्मिन् परमसंकुले,महाराज! उस महाभयानक युद्धमें चारों ओर असंख्य कबन्ध खड़े दिखायी देते थे
utthitāny agaṇeyāni kabandhāni samantataḥ | adṛśyanta mahārāja tasmin paramasaṅkule ||
Sañjaya dijo: «¡Oh Rey! En aquella batalla, totalmente caótica y espantosa, se veían por doquier incontables troncos sin cabeza (kabandhas) aún erguidos.»
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the grim reality and moral weight of war: even when fought under claims of duty, its visible outcome is mass death and chaos, prompting reflection on impermanence and the ethical cost of violence.
Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the battlefield has become intensely confused and terrifying, with innumerable kabandhas—headless, upright torsos of slain warriors—visible all around.
