Educational Q&A

Arjuna frames his vow in ethical terms: failure to uphold a solemn commitment in a righteous cause is treated as morally ruinous, comparable to notorious breaches of dharma such as ingratitude, transgression, and reviling one’s protector.

After the events surrounding Abhimanyu’s death, Arjuna publicly declares a time-bound vow: he will kill Jayadratha by the next day, or accept for himself the disgraceful fate reserved for grievous wrongdoers.
