The verse evokes mythic enemies of the gods to heighten the moral and narrative gravity of the present war: some adversaries are portrayed as so formidable that they are likened to cosmic opponents, reminding the listener that unchecked power and hostility can place one in opposition to dharmic order itself.
Sañjaya continues a descriptive enumeration, invoking the Nivātakavacas and identifying them as enemies of the gods, as part of a larger comparison or catalog meant to emphasize the scale and ferocity of the forces and combat being recounted.
