The verse highlights the fragility of martial pride: even a famed, ‘unassailable’ warrior can be shaken when the results of combat mature. It points to the ethical gravity of war—strength and reputation do not exempt one from pain, reversal, and the consequences of violent action.
Sañjaya reports that Kṛtavarmā, known for tormenting enemies, has been severely injured by Sātyaki and now trembles uncontrollably, compared to a mountain quivering during an earthquake.
