na tatrāsīd raṇe rājan somakānāṃ mahārathaḥ
Dijo Sañjaya: Oh Rey, en aquella batalla no quedó entre los Somakas ningún gran guerrero de carro: ninguno capaz de mantenerse firme en el apretón de la guerra.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the human cost of war: when conflict escalates beyond restraint, even celebrated warrior houses can be left without protectors. It implicitly warns that power and fame are fragile before the consequences of collective violence.
Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that, in that phase of the Kurukṣetra battle, no great chariot-warrior remained among the Somakas—indicating severe losses on that side.
