वैशम्पायन उवाच सतुतं ब्राह्मणो भूत्वा तस्य दुःखेन दुःखित: । उत्तड़कमब्रवीत् वाक््यं नैतच्छक्यं त्वयेति वै
vaiśampāyana uvāca | sa tu taṃ brāhmaṇo bhūtvā tasya duḥkhena duḥkhitaḥ | uttaṅkam abravīd vākyaṃ naitac chakyaṃ tvayeti vai |
Vaiśampāyana dijo: Indra, dolido por el dolor de Uttanka, tomó la apariencia de un brāhmaṇa y le habló así: “Oh brāhmaṇa, esto no puede ser logrado por ti. El Nāga-loka está a miles de yojanas de aquí; abrir un camino hasta allí con este simple bastón de madera no me parece empresa realizable.” El pasaje presenta el consejo compasivo como freno dhármico: disuade un empeño imposible y dañino, sin negar la pena del buscador.
