Puṣkara-Śapatha Itihāsa (Agastya–Indra Dispute at the Tīrthas) |

Educational Q&A

Right conduct that aligns with dharma brings multi-layered approval—of ancestors, sages, and gods—and yields integrated human goals: reputation (yaśas), righteousness (dharma), and prosperity (artha) in life, culminating in an auspicious post-death destiny (svarga).

In the Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma continues instructing Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma and the fruits of virtuous actions. This verse summarizes the rewards of such conduct: divine and ancestral satisfaction in the present and heavenly attainment after death.
