Śrāddha-utpatti and Nivāpa–Agni Precedence (श्राद्धोत्पत्तिः—निवापेऽग्निपूर्वकत्वम्)
आधिपत्य॑ व्रजेन्मर्त्यो ज्येष्ठायामपवर्जयन् । नर: कुरुकुलश्रेष्ठ ऋद्धो दमपुर:सर:
ādhipatyaṁ vrajen martyo jyeṣṭhāyām apavarjayan | naraḥ kurukulaśreṣṭha ṛddho damapuraḥsaraḥ ||
Bhishma dijo: Oh, el mejor de la estirpe de los Kuru, el mortal que, en la mansión lunar Jyeṣṭhā, ofrece los piṇḍas tras haber refrenado antes los sentidos, alcanza prosperidad y llega a ejercer señorío.
भीष्म उवाच
That sense-restraint (dama) should precede ritual action; when ancestral offerings are performed with disciplined conduct, they become a dharmic cause of prosperity and the capacity to hold authority responsibly.
In Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma, including the fruits of śrāddha-related observances. Here he states that performing piṇḍa-offerings at the time of the nakṣatra Jyeṣṭhā, with prior control of the senses, leads to prosperity and lordship.
