Educational Q&A

That giving a genuinely useful, well-equipped gift (a cart with trained oxen) is dharmic dāna and yields a correspondingly noble reward; the quality and benefit of the gift shape the merit obtained.

Bhīṣma, instructing Kaunteya (Yudhiṣṭhira) in Anuśāsana Parva’s teachings on dharma and charity, cites a specific example of dāna: donating a cart yoked with trained oxen, and states the auspicious फल (result)—a chariot ornamented with silver and gold.
