Nṛga-upākhyāna: Brāhmaṇa-sva and the Consequence of Misappropriated Gift-Cattle (कृकलास-रूपे नृगोपाख्यानम्)
गृहे यस्य वसेत् तुष्ट: प्रधानं लोकमश्रुते । अध्यापक-वंशमें उत्पन्न श्रोत्रिय एवं जितेन्द्रिय ब्राह्मण जिसके दिये हुए घरमें प्रसन्नतासे रहता है, उसे श्रेष्ठ लोक प्राप्त होते हैं
gṛhe yasya vaset tuṣṭaḥ pradhānaṃ lokam aśnute |
Dijo Bhīṣma: Si un brāhmaṇa erudito y disciplinado—nacido en un linaje de maestros (adhyāpaka-vaṃśa), śrotriya versado en el Veda y dueño de sus sentidos—habita satisfecho en la casa que alguien le ha donado, entonces ese donante alcanza los mundos más altos y excelentes. El verso presenta la hospitalidad y el sostén del verdadero saber como un acto directo de dharma que otorga un mérito superior.
भीष्म उवाच
Supporting a truly learned and self-controlled brāhmaṇa—especially by providing a dwelling and ensuring he lives there contentedly—is presented as a high form of dāna that leads the giver to superior spiritual realms.
In Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma. Here he states a specific fruit of merit: the donor who provides a home in which a qualified śrotriya, sense-controlled brāhmaṇa resides happily gains the foremost lokas.
