अध्याय १६ — शङ्कर-उमा-वरदानम् तथा तण्डि-स्तुतिः (Śaṅkara–Umā Boon-Granting and Taṇḍi’s Hymn)
दशनामसहस््राणि देवेष्वाह पितामह: । शर्वस्य शास्त्रेषु तथा दशनामशतानि च,पितामह ब्रह्माने पूर्वकालमें देवताओंके निकट महादेवजीके दस हजार नाम बताये थे और शास््त्रोंमें भी उनके सहस्र नाम वर्णित हैं
daśanāmasahasrāṇi deveṣv āha pitāmahaḥ | śarvasya śāstreṣu tathā daśanāmaśatāni ca ||
Vāyu dijo: «En tiempos antiguos, el Abuelo (Brahmā) proclamó ante los dioses los diez mil nombres de Śarva (Śiva). Asimismo, las escrituras registran también cientos de sus nombres.» La afirmación subraya que a lo divino se le aborda mediante muchos epítetos, y que el recuerdo reverente del nombre (nāma) es una vía de devoción avalada por la tradición.
