मानसतीर्थ-शौचप्रशंसा | Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity
तत्र शंखपताके द्वे युगान्तं कल्पमेव च । अयुतायुतं तथा पद्म समुद्र च तथा वसेत्
tatra śaṅkha-patāke dve yugāntaṁ kalpam eva ca | ayutāyutaṁ tathā padma samudraṁ ca tathā vaset ||
Bhīṣma dijo: “En aquel reino superior, se dice que el hombre que mantiene su voto mora por medidas de tiempo inmensas: dos períodos llamados ‘Śaṅkha’ y dos ‘Patākā’, un Yugānta, un Kalpa, un Ayutāyuta, un Padma e incluso un ‘Samudra’; con ello se indica una permanencia extraordinariamente larga en Brahmaloka como fruto del dharma sostenido por el voto.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse emphasizes that steadfast observance of vows (vrata-dharma) yields immense spiritual merit, symbolized by extraordinarily long residence in Brahmaloka measured in traditional vast numerical/time units.
Bhīṣma continues his instruction in Anuśāsana Parva by describing the fruits of a vow-observant life, listing grand cosmological measures of time to convey the magnitude of the reward.
