मानसतीर्थ-शौचप्रशंसा | Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity

व्याख्यातो ह्ानुपूर्व्येण उपवासफलात्मक: । दरिद्रेर्मनुजै: पार्थ प्राप्त यज्ञफलं यथा

vyākhyāto hy ānupūrvyena upavāsaphalātmakaḥ | daridrair manujaiḥ pārtha prāptaṃ yajñaphalaṃ yathā || bharataśreṣṭha! yaḥ tubhyaṃ yajñānām uttamaṃ vidhānaṃ kramaśaḥ vistārapūrvakaṃ vyākhyātaṃ, tasmin upavāsasya phale prakāśo dattaḥ | kuntīnandana! daridrā manuṣyāḥ ebhiḥ upavāsātmakair vratānuṣṭhānaiḥ yajñānāṃ phalaṃ prāptavantaḥ ||

Dijo Bhishma: «He explicado, en el debido orden, la disciplina cuya esencia es el fruto del ayuno. Oh Pārtha, así como se obtiene el fruto del sacrificio (yajña), del mismo modo los hombres pobres han alcanzado el fruto del sacrificio mediante estos votos fundados en el ayuno. Oh el mejor de los Bhāratas, te he expuesto—paso a paso y con detalle—la ordenanza más excelsa de los sacrificios, y en ella he esclarecido el mérito que nace del ayuno. Oh hijo de Kuntī, aun quienes carecen de riquezas, al emprender estos votos de ayuno, han alcanzado la misma recompensa que la de los sacrificios».
