Aṃśāvataraṇa-kathana (Catalog of Divine/Asuric Portions in Human Births) — Chapter 61

Educational Q&A

The passage highlights that dharma is upheld not only by bravery but also by wise counsel and timely action. When confronted with adharma expressed through deceit and attempted murder, protecting life through prudent strategy—guided by a righteous adviser like Vidura—becomes an ethical imperative.

After escaping the deadly lac-house trap (jatugṛha/lākṣāgṛha), the five Pāṇḍavas flee with their mother at midnight into the forest, departing from Hastināpura. Vidura’s guidance and assistance are credited as crucial to their successful escape.
