Educational Q&A

A ruler’s dharma requires impartial justice; when governance is driven by attachment to power and favoritism toward one’s own children, it becomes ethically compromised and can initiate a chain of adharma.

Vaiśampāyana explains that Dhṛtarāṣṭra, motivated by affection for his sons and desire for royal enjoyment, arranged for the Pāṇḍavas to be sent away from the center of power—an action that aligns with the broader plot of removing them from Hastināpura (notably toward Vāraṇāvata and the lac house episode in the surrounding narration).
