Śārṅgakānāṃ Avināśaḥ (Why the Śārṅga Birds Were Spared) | शार्ङ्गकानामविनाशः
शास्त्रत: प्रतिविन्ध्यं तमूचुर्विप्रा युधिष्ठिरम् । परप्रहरणज्ञाने प्रतिविन्ध्यो भवत्वयम्,ब्राह्मणोंने युधिष्ठिससे उनके पुत्रका नाम शास्त्रके अनुसार प्रतिविन्ध्य बताया। उनका उद्देश्य यह था कि यह प्रहारजनित वेदनाके ज्ञानमें विन्ध्यपर्वतके समान हो। (इसे शत्रुओंके प्रहारसे तनिक भी पीड़ा न हो)
śāstrataḥ prativindhyaṃ tam ūcur viprā yudhiṣṭhiram | parapraharaṇajñāne prativindhyo bhavatv ayam ||
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: Los sabios brahmanes, conforme a los preceptos del śāstra, dijeron a Yudhiṣṭhira que el niño debía llamarse Prativindhya. Con ello deseaban que, en el conocimiento y la resistencia al dolor causado por los golpes ajenos, fuese como el monte Vindhya: inconmovible, sin afligirse aun cuando los enemigos lo hirieran.
