तस्याथ कामधुग् धेनुर्वसिष्ठस्थ महात्मन: । उक्ता कामान् प्रयच्छेति सा कामान् दुह्मुते सदा,महात्मा वसिष्ठजीके यहाँ एक कामधेनु थी, जो “अमुक-अमुक मनोरथोंको पूर्ण करो' यह कहने-पर सदा उन-उन कामनाओं को पूर्ण कर दिया करती थी
tasyātha kāmadhug dhenur vasiṣṭhasya mahātmanaḥ | uktā kāmān prayaccheti sā kāmān duhmute sadā ||
Entonces, perteneciente al magnánimo Vasiṣṭha, había una vaca que cumplía los deseos, Kāmadhuk. Cuando se le decía: «Concede estos anhelos», ella derramaba sin cesar —como leche— cuanto objeto de deseo se le pidiera. El episodio subraya el poder extraordinario que acompaña al mérito ascético y la responsabilidad implícita en poseer tal abundancia.
