Beginning of the Āstīka Narrative
Kadrū–Vinatā, Aruṇa and Garuḍa Origins
The verse highlights disciplined adherence to a self-imposed condition: personal desire is subordinated to a principled resolve, presenting marriage as a dharmic responsibility undertaken only when the stipulated ethical condition is met.
Śaunaka reports that Jaratkāru has fixed his mind on marrying only a woman who shares his name, and only if she is duly offered—setting the stage for how his marriage will occur under specific terms rather than ordinary courtship.
