Droṇa’s Ācārya-Dakṣiṇā: Capture of Drupada and Division of Pāñcāla (द्रोण-आचार्यदक्षिणा)

अयं बलवतां श्रेष्ठ: कुन्तीपुत्रो वृकोदर: । मध्यम: पाण्डुपुत्राणां निकृत्या संनिगृह्मुताम्‌,वह अपने भाइयोंके साथ विचार करने लगा कि “यह मध्यम पाण्डुपुत्र कुन्तीनन्दन भीम बलवानोंमें सबसे बढ़कर है। इसे धोखा देकर कैद कर लेना चाहिये

ayaṃ balavatāṃ śreṣṭhaḥ kuntīputro vṛkodaraḥ | madhyamaḥ pāṇḍuputrāṇāṃ nikṛtyā saṃnigṛhmūtām |

Dijo Vaiśampāyana: «Este Bhīma—hijo de Kuntī, llamado Vṛkodara—es el primero entre los fuertes y el hijo mediano entre los de Pāṇḍu. Debe ser apresado y encerrado mediante engaño». La línea pone de relieve una estrategia inicua: en vez de afrontar la fuerza por medios justos, los conjurados eligen la traición y el encierro ilegítimo contra un rival virtuoso.
