Educational Q&A

The verse frames Satyavatī as one who understands dharma in both its ideal (parama) and pragmatic (apara) dimensions, preparing the ethical ground for difficult but duty-driven decisions aimed at protecting lineage and social order.

Vyāsa addresses Queen Satyavatī, acknowledging her discernment of dharma. This functions as a preface to counsel and action connected with safeguarding the Kuru dynasty’s continuity (the broader episode leading into the niyoga arrangement for producing heirs).
