अनुक्रमणिकाध्यायः (Anukramaṇikā Adhyāya) — Invocation, Narrator Frame, and Textual Scope
अथ तेषूपविष्टेषु सर्वेष्वेव तपस्विषु । निर्दिष्टमासनं भेजे विनयाललौमहर्षणि:
atha teṣūpaviṣṭeṣu sarveṣv eva tapasviṣu | nirdiṣṭam āsanaṃ bheje vinayāl lomaharṣaṇiḥ ||
Luego, cuando todos aquellos ascetas hubieron tomado asiento, Lomaharṣaṇa—por humildad y debido decoro—ocupó el lugar que le fue asignado. La escena subraya la disciplina: aun un narrador erudito honra a la asamblea aceptando su puesto con modestia, sin afán de imponerse.
The verse highlights vinaya (humility) and maryādā (proper conduct): even a respected speaker honors the community and its order by accepting the seat assigned, showing that learning and authority should be accompanied by modesty.
In the opening frame of the Mahābhārata, an assembly of ascetics has seated itself; Lomaharṣaṇa (the Sūta narrator) then takes the designated seat, preparing to speak in a manner consistent with the assembly’s discipline and hierarchy.
