Adhyaya 89: शौचाचारलक्षणम् — सदाचार, भैक्ष्यचर्या, प्रायश्चित्त, द्रव्यशुद्धि, आशौच-निर्णय

अष्टाब्दाद् एकरात्रेण शुद्धिः स्याद् बान्धवस्य तु द्वादशाब्दात्ततश्चार्वाक् त्रिरात्रं स्त्रीषु सुव्रताः

aṣṭābdād ekarātreṇa śuddhiḥ syād bāndhavasya tu dvādaśābdāttataścārvāk trirātraṃ strīṣu suvratāḥ

Para un pariente, después de los ocho años, la purificación de la impureza por muerte se cumple en una sola noche. Pero desde los doce años en adelante, en el caso de mujeres de buenos votos (suvratā), la purificación ha de observarse durante tres noches.
